Materials that can be processed with our Hot wire CNC foam cutter
Below is a non exhaustive list of materials that can be cut with CROMA hot wire foam machines
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)
It is particularly the material of choice for household appliances. Vacuum cleaners and coffee makers are often made of ABS. Mostly injected, this material can also be processed with a hot wire to be cut to length or on the same principles of a 3D printer.
Primary use: nautical industries, automotive sector
Evazote (EVA)
It is particularly the material of choice for household appliances. Vacuum cleaners and coffee makers are often made of ABS. Mostly injected, this material can also be processed with a hot wire to be cut to length or on the same principles of a 3D printer.
Primary use: nautical industries, automotive sector
Polyethylene (PE)
Polyethylene, or polyethene, is one of the simplest and cheapest polymers. It belongs to the family of polyolefins. It is a thermoplastic polymer, translucent, chemically inert (it is more resistant to strong oxidants than polypropylene), easy to handle and resistant to cold.
Primary use: packaging, cushioning, medical.
Cross-linked polyethylene (PER)
In the form of foam it is also called polyethylene foam or polyolefin or emalene. One of the best-known trademarks is Plastazote®.
Primary use: packaging
Polymethacrylimide (PMI)
This material, better known under the trade name “Rohacell®”, is used in high-tech industries:
It has exceptional mechanical qualities and can also be thermoformed.
Primary use: aeronautics, space industry, medical, composite materials
Expanded Polypropylene (EPP)
Expanded polypropylene, or EPP according to EN ISO 1043-1, is a foam that looks like expanded polystyrene, but with a shape memory allowing it to deform without breaking, a great foam absorbing shock!. Easy to process with CROMA hot wire CNC foam cutter, white or black, it can have very high density, which makes it a key material in automotive or aeronautical industries.
Primary use: automotive, packaging, medical, space industry
Expanded polystyrene (EPS)
This material has a low carbon footprint because it is made of more than 98% of air.
It recycles very well and is a very good thermal insulator.
Primary use: Packaging, building industry (insulation), communication (lettering, decoration…), molding, prototyping
Extruded Polystyrene (XPS)
With the same composition as expanded polystyrene, extruded polystyrene differs in its method of manufacture. It has the same qualities as PSE but with much better mechanical resistance.
Primary use: Packaging, building industry (insulation), communication (lettering, decoration…), molding, prototyping
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)
PET is a saturated polyester. Now coming under different types of foam, low density PET can also be processed with our hot wire CNC foam cutter.
construction, roads, railway, aeronautics, wind power
Polyurethane (PU)
Flexible polyurethane foams are used in particular to manufacture furniture. Not all PU foam comply with our technology so feel free to send us your samples and we will test them for you.
Primary use: seating, mattresses and sofas.
Polycarbonate (PC)
PC is a a plastic material with excellent mechanical properties and a thermal resistance allowing use between -100 ° C and 120 ° C.
Primary use: nautical industries, automotive sector
